All Seeing Seneca is an Asian-American digital artist and illustrator, born in the United States to Chinese parents and raised in Shanghai, who conceals her identity behind a mask in public.,She creates a twisted dream world of characters and worlds described as “cosmic horror and candyland”, drawing on animation, cinematic storytelling and her love of the macabre. She served as lead character designer for the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
Seneca studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating in 2016, and was working as a freelance illustrator in New York when creative agent Nicole Muniz spotted her college portfolio. In 2021 Muniz, then advising Yuga Labs on a new project, brought Seneca on to design character artwork for the Bored Ape Yacht Club.Seneca became the lead artist on the original Bored Ape Yacht Club collection of 10,000 non-fungible tokens, drawing the ape body and developing signature traits including the grinning mouth, the popping eyes and the beanie, while other artists handled additional traits and backgrounds. Her characters were adopted as profile pictures across the internet, including by Jimmy Fallon, Steph Curry and Post Malone, and appeared on Times Square billboards.
In December 2021 Seneca made her NFT debut under her own name, contributing four pieces to a group collection titled ICONOCLAST at Art Basel Miami, minted on Ethereum and hosted on the Internet Computer blockchain. One piece, Delirium, shows flora, fauna and limbs bursting from the gaping eye sockets of a girl with an elongated head, an image she has described as reflecting how her mind works. The collection sold for a combined 23.7 ETH, about USD 84,000.
In 2023 Seneca released Perils of Sēsē, a limited series of 2,880 pieces made with Transient Labs that combined generative and hand-drawn techniques and sold out within ten minutes.,The series follows a nonlinear, three-chapter story built around three characters, Arachne Catikus, Sophos and Shermicus, drawn from Freud's concepts of the id, the superego and the ego. It was the first collection released on Transient Labs' ERC-7160 multi-metadata token standard, which lets each piece's artwork evolve the longer a collector holds it.
In 2021 CoinDesk named Seneca as one of its year-end honorees in the crypto industry, citing her as the creative lead behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Her paintings have since been shown at “The Armory” and sold at a solo auction of four works with Phillips.,She has continued to paint under the Seneca name, showing traditional work with New York's Albertz Benda gallery.
