Alimo (American, b. 1985) is a contemporary fine artist and digital creator born in Portland, Oregon, and based between Brooklyn and the West Coast.,Working across acrylic painting, murals, digital art, and a daily sketch practice,he paints curvy, post-pop figures in highly saturated colors alongside expressive hand-drawn lettering.His scenes draw on surfing, snowboarding, and everyday human interaction, rooted in lived experience.
The name Alimo began as a joke during art school: assigned to invent a skateboard brand, he searched Urban Dictionary for the phrase “means nothing” and Alimo came up as a result.He used the name as a personal illustration brand while freelancing for surf companies after college,but let it lapse as client work absorbed his ideas, before quitting freelance jobs to revive it as his own practice.
His illustration work has been licensed by brands including Patagonia, Swatch, Portland Trail Blazers, and Lou and Grey.In January 2024 he released Japanuary on Nifty Gateway in partnership with Transient Labs, a set of six 24-hour open editions depicting a visual diary of his winter snowboarding trip to Japan.He is represented by ABV Gallery.
