Alida Sun is a multidisciplinary artist based in Berlin who creates generative art through hand-coded software, paired with sound, projection mapping, and live performance.She entered generative art through projection mapping after finishing university, turning to free and open-source frameworks because she could not afford commercial software.For years she has hand-coded a new generative artwork almost daily, a practice begun to document and archive her work.,
Her 2021 project on Art Blocks, glitch crystal monsters, draws on mythologies, minerals, and the cultural implications of decentralization, folding in more than 700 days of her daily coding practice.The following year she staged Stellaraum at Kraftwerk Berlin, a projection-mapped installation and live performance with dancers Giorgia Bovo and Jonathan Royse Windham, scored by the composer Miro. She continued the project in 2023 as KLANGRAUM, presented through Manifold.
In December 2022 Sun took part in “FEMGEN”, a gender-equity exhibition organized with Art Blocks and VerticalCrypto Art at Art Basel Miami Beach, showing work from glitch crystal monsters.The following year Unit London's group exhibition “Sonic Alchemy” opened with her body-mapped audiovisual piece Synesthesia, which translates her own movement and sound into geometric visuals.,The gallery later showed the same piece at Digital Art Fair Hong Kong, describing it as a translation of her own somatic data into geometric sound structures.
In her 2026 solo exhibition “RITES” at Method Delhi, Sun translated her hand-coded generative works into embroidered mirror-work tapestries made with women artisans of the Swami Sivananda Memorial Institute, reframing computing's origins in textile labor as a feminist history.,,She points to the hand-woven copper core-rope memory used to store the flight software for NASA's Apollo missions as an example of women's erased contribution to computing.In her studio practice Sun favors free, open-source tools such as Processing and p5.js for sketches and C++ for performance-driven installations, arguing that community-maintained code keeps digital art archivable.,
Her installation Biophony, evoking existing and extinct soundscape ecologies, was on view at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art from March through September 2025, curated by Julie Ganas.Sun maintains a degree of pseudonymity, explaining that “anonymity saves a lot of time, especially as a woman”.,,,
