The Brazilian artist Alex Benedith is a digital artist working across photo manipulation, 3D modeling and digital painting. His surrealist images, rendered in dark, nostalgic tones, center on Umbras, shadow figures that stand in for the parts of human nature people conceal behind masks.
Benedith began as a photo manipulation artist and later explored 3D modeling and digital painting, gradually merging the practices together. He renders each piece across software before finishing it by hand, painting light, atmosphere, texture and shadow into the image. Alongside his studio practice he works as an art director, designer and content creator.
In 2024 a juried panel drawn from institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, Christie's and The Shed selected his work for HUG's inaugural “100 Artists to Watch”.His work has been exhibited at NFT.NYC in 2022, at NFT Brasil's show in the Bienal Pavilion in São Paulo's Ibirapuera Park in 2023, and in a solo exhibition at Suburbs Gallery in Montréal in 2024.Through Artcrush Gallery he has shown work in Belgium and Melbourne, and the gallery selected his piece A Few Repairs Will Do the Trick for its Spotlight of the Month, describing it as “full of symbolism and textures that create extraordinary depth”.
He has released work as 1/1 editions through platforms including Transient Labs and Exchange Art, among them Sun Killer, The False Messiah and In Dust.In 2026 he exhibited at Artverse Paris.Fellow digital artist Yomu Yakadashi has credited Benedith's production technique as a personal influence, calling his work one of a kind in style.
