Alejandro Campos (Spanish, b. 1988) is a creative coder, architect and historian based in Rotterdam whose generative art practice merges algorithmic systems with analog processes. Between 2021 and 2024, he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at TU Delft's Department of Architecture and a Research Associate at the Research Center for Material Culture in the Netherlands.
He holds a PhD in architectural history and theory from the Universitat Politècnica de València, where he is a tenured Assistant Professor, and his scholarship focuses on the colonial dynamics behind Modern Architecture's universalizing claims.,He is also co-founder of the architecture office Arqtistic in Valencia, which works across built projects, exhibitions and academic research.Since 2020, Campos has made generative art and worked with AI, releasing collections including Enfantines I. Small Talk and Enfantines II. Enfantillages Pittoresques on Tezos and Fuga a tientas on Ethereum. His work connects art history, critical theory, classical music and architecture, and he approaches each generative algorithm the way he approaches architecture: starting from a clear objective and working toward it methodically.
In Draftwerk, Campos collaborated with artist Anna Beller, merging generative algorithms with physical painting techniques. He developed custom software to generate vector-based compositions, which Beller then interpreted by hand through taping and spray painting.Beller later said the collaboration pushed her to set higher aims than she would have alone, calling their experiment in connecting coding, pen plotting and physical painting a success.The series was exhibited at Kate Vass Galerie's Node to Node art salon in Paris in October 2023.
