Alberto Montt (Chilean, b. 1972) is a graphic designer, illustrator, and cartoonist known for the online comic strip Dosis diarias (Daily Doses), published since 2006.“Keep it fun and the logic simple” is his creed:he builds his characters in Illustrator from cut and rearranged pieces of digital construction paper, using a small set of tools that include the Pencil, Pen, Shape Builder, and Knife.
Born in Quito, Ecuador, to a Chilean father and an Ecuadorian mother, Montt studied graphic design and plastic arts in Quito before founding his own design firm. He moved to Santiago, Chile, in 1998, where he worked as an op-ed illustrator for the newspaper El Mercurio and later for the magazines Qué Pasa, Capital, and Blank, alongside illustrating children's books.
Dosis diarias has been read more than 120,000 times a day,and Montt's cartoons and illustrations have been collected in ten volumes published across Latin America and Spain.In 2011 the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle awarded the blog its prize for Best Spanish-language Blog,,and in 2010 Montt was nominated for an Altazor Award in the Graphic design and illustration category for his work on the book Recetas al pie de la letra.
His illustration books include Para ver y no creer (2001), En dosis diarias (2008), ¡Mecachendié! (2012), and El código de la amistad de Chivas Regal (2012).He later published his first graphic novel, Achiote, a collection of autobiographical anecdotes. His illustrations for the epic poem La Araucana were selected for the IBBY Honour List.
