Agoston Nagy is a Budapest-based artist, educator and researcher whose algorithmic art explores the interplay between computational systems and intuitive thinking. His practice spans code-based audiovisual artworks and real-time sonification, alongside mechanical plotter drawings and physical installations built from custom-made electronic components.
Nagy has taught interaction design, and computation and art, at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, worked previously as a researcher at Kitchen Budapest, and headed computational design and experimental media research at the MOME Innovation Center. He has led international workshops on computational art, systems thinking and creative coding across the EU, the US, Canada and Asia, with the results published in academic conference proceedings.,His work has been shown at institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Zentrum für Kunst und Medien (ZKM) in Karlsruhe, EXPANDED.ART Gallery in Berlin, the Finnish National Gallery and the Ludwig Museum in Budapest.
Procedural Drawings, a 2024 series of monochrome plotter drawings shown at EXPANDED.ART Gallery in Berlin alongside the Generative Art Summit, rearranges an initial field of parallel lines into wrinkled, overlapping patterns that a plotter machine traces onto paper over several hours.Infinite Sand Sorter, a kinetic installation combining a modified plotter machine with sand, metal, wood and a Raspberry Pi, was shown at Myriad in Stockholm and the 12 Hz exhibition in Budapest in 2024.M3MP%L, shown at the Binálé festival in Hungary in 2025,is a series of text-based audiovisual compositions that visualise live data from the Ethereum mempool across three screens, translating pending transactions, gas fees and wait times into terminal-style graphics and sound.L1NK, an installation presented at Sónar +D in Spain in 2026,generates sequences of light, movement and sonified sound from four LED matrices using cellular automata and other morphogenetic algorithms governed by a Markov chain.
In 2024 Nagy took part in “Remix the Archive” at Alusta Space in Helsinki, part of the Combine24 generative art competition in which artists from 47 countries reworked the Finnish National Gallery's copyright-free digital collection. In 2025 he participated in “New Session”, a generative art program by bootloader and GenArtClub presented at Internet Café by objkt during Art on Tezos Berlin, alongside artists including Piter Pasma and Aleksandra Jovanic.Nagy releases generative work on the platforms fxhash, Highlight and EditArt, and in 2026 published a daily series of code-based, browser-based audiovisual pieces on EditArt for the Genuary community art challenge.,
