Agoria, whose given name is Sébastien Devaud,,is a French DJ, producer, and composer who began mixing at underground raves in the 1990s and helped shape France's electronic music scene.,Since entering the NFT space in 2021,he has developed what he calls “biological generative art”, translating data from living systems into generative digital works made with scientists.,
He cofounded the record label Infiné,released albums through Universal Music and Virgin, and founded Sapiens Records, and helped launch the Nuits Sonores electronic music festival in Lyon.Agoria began minting NFTs in 2021, releasing the series This is not a Van Gogh on Foundation. The following year, he collaborated with the artist collective Obvious on What if the Earth would turn faster?, pairing footage of planets with his own algorithmically generated music.
Agoria has coined the phrase “biological generative art” for a practice built on collaborations with scientists.,With the biologist Alice Meunier, he created {Centriole}, which draws on microscopic footage of brain-cell activity to explore how decisions form. With the biophysicist Nicolas Desprat and the composer Nicolas Becker, he developed Phytocene (2021), visualizing the cellular growth of a hemp field, building on an earlier live-audio project, HempFM, that streamed sound recorded underground in the same field.Stills extracted from that research became the collection At the roots of plants (2022).
In 2024, Agoria presented “{Le Code d'Orsay”} at the Musée d'Orsay,,built around a collaboration with the artist Johan Lescure. Its centerpiece, the series {Σ Lumina} - The Convergence of Breath, used a steel sculpture that cast a QR code shadow visitors could activate with their breath, generating digital pieces that merged Impressionist paintings from the museum's collection with his {Compend-AI} model. For a second work, he animated Gustave Courbet's 1855 painting The Painter's Studio using data from a yeast culture grown in a bioreactor, developed with four scientists.Agoria and Lescure continued this collaboration as the duo Atelier Σigma, presenting the series {As Above, So Within} at ArtVerse during Art Basel Paris in 2025.
Agoria has also applied blockchain to music distribution: his generative song Getaway, made with Neil Rogers and Madison McFerrin, generates a different version of the track with each play through his project “Make Music Rare Again”.He shares song royalties with supporters through a community he calls the “Agorians”.In 2026, he contributed an unheard soundtrack to “{Exist in Silence”}, a collaboration with the duo WEN New Atelier shown at the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Lyon.
