404.zero is a Russian audiovisual duo, the media artist Kristina Karpysheva and the audio-visual designer Sasha Letsius, working since 2016 across generative visuals, laser and light installations, and modular synthesizer music.,Working exclusively with TouchDesigner for visuals and modular synthesizers for sound, they build real-time audiovisual works using no samples, footage, or loops, exploring themes of death, the unknown, and the cosmos.,
Karpysheva and Letsius met while she was studying at the British Higher School of Art and Design, after he had already worked with the Russian multidisciplinary collective Tundra. Their collaboration began with a laser installation at the Quartariata Residence in Peterhof, followed by an audiovisual performance at the Moscow Planetarium and shows at LACMA and the Orpheum Theatre in the United States.
Their project Arrival began as an online video that drew more than half a million views in a month, before being staged as a physical installation of customized metal squares, light, and sound at the Avant Gardner club in New York over three nights in December 2019.,A related piece, No Time. No Future. I am here. RIP. (2016), used a 361-laser array and modular synthesizers controlled by a Kinect sensor to stage a version of Plato's allegory of the cave.,Their debut album, 404.0, was released on the Icelandic label Bedroom Community in 2020. They have performed at international festivals including Dark Mofo, MUTEK, and the Electric Castle Festival, and their work has been selected by the Japan Media Arts Festival.
Since moving into Web3, they have released work through platforms including Zora, LightOnChain, and SuperRare.
