1980k is an artist working between digital and physical space, exploring how light, interactivity, human agency, and technological control shape perception, behavior, and ownership in a connected world. His digital work draws on dystopian narratives about human-machine interaction, surveillance, and on-chain technology, while his physical installations use retro neon, LED systems, and other technology-driven components to build immersive, experiential environments.
1980k's practice is rooted in a family of musicians, painters, and wood workers. Early experience with soldering, painting, and illustration shaped his hands-on approach to making art. He draws on subcultures including graffiti, skateboarding, and the light and space movement.In 1998 he began exploring digital art in Photoshop 5, adapting traditional illustrations for screen printing. By 2017 he had begun minting artwork on the blockchain.
In The Network (2023), ten pieces mapped digital dependency through nodes, skeletons, and light beams, exploring how artificial intelligence might rewrite human connection. H4X0R, also from 2023, cast an on-chain hacker watching the network, where every green block represents a transaction. Agents, twenty pieces made in 2023 and minted in 2025, depicts influencers automating a rebellion in what the artist calls agentic anarchy. Transcripts (2024), twenty-five pieces minted on Bitcoin, renders human messages as infinite ASCII streams asking what signals we should send into the universe.
In physical space, 1980k has built experiential environments with neon and LED systems for brands and musicians including Snapchat, Red Bull, and Nike. He has won and displayed work at the Smithsonian National Museum, and his art has featured in curated activations including the Corcoran Gallery of Art and Coachella.
