111iks, the alias of Alexandre Cornet, is a French multidisciplinary artist who draws intricate urban scenes in ink, using Rotring pen and pigment ink on paper.He grew up drawing and painting graffiti before moving into illustration, sculpture and painting, and has lived in four countries, with Peru his most recent home.
Cornet's ink drawings focus on Lima, Peru, where he has lived: Lima Metropolis (2015–2016) records the city's chaotic urban experience alongside its remote wilderness,and Resistencia Popular (2020) depicts Lima's street vendors and carts alongside the Andean folk figure of the Ekeko.In 2017 he made Lanzón, a metal sculpture of 66 hand-fabricated masks assembled into a monolith evoking a present-day ark, shown as a solo exhibition at Centro Colich in Lima.He exhibited ink drawings of Hong Kong, including scenes of its transit hubs and street vendors, in the 2019 duo show “Rumbling Roads” with Guillaume Cornet at Odd One Out Gallery in Hong Kong.That same year he also showed Lima street scenes in the solo exhibition “Ficciones: Cartografías de una Ciudad” at Tierra Baldía in Lima, which he revisited at Alianza Francesa in Lima in 2021.
Around 2021 his subject matter shifted from architectural cityscapes toward space and science fiction: Neon Dusk on the High Line (2021), in ink and color marker, depicts an elevated New York park at night,and the numbered series Galactic Coordinates (2022) imagines cosmic scenes with titles referencing a blockchain palace and a token god.
