Barry Sutton is an American artist based in New York whose work combines photography, artificial intelligence, and language systems to examine how images and the systems that produce them shape cultural memory.,His series Mythologies (2023) draws on fashion photography, street culture, and online aesthetics to examine how images build the myths youth culture uses to understand itself, merging photography with AI processes.
Mythologies was shown as a solo exhibition at NFT Factory in Paris in November 2023,and Sutton is represented by Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles.A follow-up, Mythologies II, released as open editions on Foundation in January 2024, turned the same synthetic lens toward broader social narratives. Sutton described the works as addressing “patriotism, power, success, desire, beauty, the tools of work and worship”.In Olympia (2024), released through the Verse x Tender launchpad as a 1-of-50 auction, Sutton used the lens of sport to address global issues including immigration and pollution.
His series Evidence (2024) uses AI diffusion models, custom scripts, and image-analysis tools to visualize the intuitive impulses and subconscious structures behind artistic decision-making.The work entered the collection of the Francisco Carolinum Museum in Linz and was shown there and at Expanded Art in Berlin.,Con Jobs (2025) is a generative text work drawing on a corpus of more than 30,000 documented statements by the forty-fifth and forty-seventh President of the United States, recombined algorithmically into a continuous stream of text.Sutton serves as Chair of the MPS Fashion Photography program at the School of Visual Arts. He is also the founder of Cera, an AI-powered platform for creative development.
