The Visual component is a groundbreaking multimedia artwork that pushes the boundaries of contemporary art, pairs with literature and explores the intricate relationship between human emotions and artificial intelligence. Exhibited for the first time at Zero Space, NYC on 12-13 April 2023 as part of the VERSEverse initiative, this piece has captivated audiences with its innovative approach and thought-provoking themes.
ARTJEDI1 interpreted a poem Ardea Alba Egreta, written by Andrea Halaby by generating a series of 138 frames based on a photograph from ARTJEDI1's 'Waterscapes' series, captured in 2010 in Geneva, Switzerland, the artist has expanded upon the original moment, creating a visually stunning and emotionally charged piece that explores the idea of a fleeting moment being artificially replicated and the complexity of human emotions in response to a terrible, unspoken event.
Complementing the visual component is a haunting sound collage, meticulously crafted by ARTJEDI1 from multiple CC0 resources, to resonate with the narrator’s emotional state. It mirrors the turmoil and confusion experienced by the narrator, who is grappling with the aftermath of a tragic event. The unsettling audio serves to amplify the sense of unease permeating the piece, drawing listeners into the narrator's emotional journey. ARTJEDI1’s considerate and thought-provoking collaboration with AI is a powerful exploration of the intersection between technology and human emotion. By using AI to manipulate a photograph that the artist captured in 2010 and creating an evocative sound collage, she raises important questions about the nature of memory, authenticity, and the ways in which we process and come to terms with the unspeakable.
This meditative and provocative work invites viewers and listeners to reflect on their own experiences and consider the complex relationship between reality and artifice in the digital age. POESIA DE PROTESTA is an exhibition featuring 10 Spanish poems written by Hispanic women. The texts all express a form of protest – political, economic, sexual, or social. Each poem has been interpreted by a visual artist, with curation by Cuban historian and art professor Gladys Garrote. Curatorial Statement: POESÍA De PROTESTA / theVERSEverse by Gladys Garrote Protesting from a poetic voice, expressing complaints through the veil of linguistic acrobatics and rhetorical resources is a way to split reality. The collection of visual poems exhibited under the title Poesía de Protesta (Protest Poetry) gathers the voices of ten Latin American female poets in collaboration with visual artists with diverse backgrounds. These resulting transdisciplinary pieces dialogue in a critical sense about the contexts from which they are created. Although the protest is linked to artistic activism and political art, this collection approaches the phenomena from a widened conception in which the intimate universes and individual landscapes overlap the global practices; the individual experiences as a whole, shape the collective discourse. These poems argue against the present’s prevailing ideologies and address issues such as gender violence, exile, economic marginalization, fragmented identities, and erotic otherness. The anthology Poesía de Protesta creates an anti-hegemonic body in itself: tissued by female Latin American voices, it opens up a space to the Spanish language as an action against the supremacy of English in the mainstream of contemporary art. The revindication of the marginalized is dynamized in the space of digital creation. The technological intermediality expands the ethical and aesthetic horizons of humanity and, therefore, the ways that the protest is performed.
