As for why and how I lost or wasted time up until today—I don't know the answer to that either. Why we use similar verbs for spending money and spending time is beyond me. It’s just another piece of human absurdity, one of those questions with completely useless answers. Anyway, while taking sips of my hot coffee, I keep half an eye on how many pages I’ve read. Maybe this is just another one of those strange games I play with numbers. In everything I do, and in those moments where I wait to take action, I sometimes stick religiously to certain numbers, just to remind myself of how disciplined and in control of time I can be. This, right here, is one of those things other people don't know about me.
When new people meet me, they smile at my face without having a clue what they're getting into as they get to know me; completely unaware of what bizarre creatures roam the alleys of my mind, they take me for someone happy, fun, and intellectual. In reality, if they knew the kinds of games required to orchestrate all of this and present myself this way, they would probably think I’m either crazy or a liar. There’s no harm in who I am to them, or in them learning about my relationship with numbers and feeling strange about it—this, too, is just another one of my constructs.
