The genesis of the Source NFT collection lies in the minting by @nonceptualism of three themed NFTS, Pop Art 1-3, all described with the Velvet Underground appropriation, "It's not the beginning of a new age", a gesture to the Warhol Factory of the Sixties.
@Labelsonhumans, whose continuing collaboration with @nonceptualism has already produced two collections - Life or Data, and Locate Yourself - was taken with these three pieces and proposed morphing them into no-art statements responding to the prevalent genart algorithms that had spawned them.
Source NFT can be seen as shorthand for "Source Nothing LeFT", a reductive art assault on AI and generative art that renders it minimally aesthetic, engaging, and attractive, yet because they suggest they are more than nothing but arent, delivers a gloriously bland sucker punch that nevertheless contextually is thriving in energy and symbolism.
Cannibalistic, creating for generative art a confrontation and conversation with itself, work emerges that is insidious and unsettling, resembling a cyber attack on the mind of the machine and the viewer.
