Unknown Sitter is Lot 02 from the Privacy Collection by Operator (Ania Catherine and Dejha Ti). Historically, the subject of a portrait who could not be identified would be called an ‘Unknown Sitter.’ Through Operator’s Privacy Portraits, a durational performance installation that took place in London (July 2022), collectors had their portraits taken and anonymized. This anomalous portrait developed with no visible subject. A contemporary Unknown Sitter has emerged–a portrait of absence. (2022)
The collector of Unknown Sitter receives both the physical and a digital portrait. operator.la/privacy-collection/unknown-sitter
