I reflect both a permanent fear and complete indifference toward the enemy. My moral readiness fails to stir me awake in the morning. I have long lost my emotions, and thus I find myself counting on my own resilience, as the reservoir of empathy simply doesn’t have time to replenish. Where there was once communication, a callus has formed from constant friction, pressing a dull pain that I face repeatedly.
The collective diagnosis is an identity disorder. One part of my identity fades at night. The other paints itself in the morning and goes to work. I am simultaneously overwhelmed by these quiet breaths of reality. Therefore, I am very, very tired. xoxo
