The story that brings someone to a 72-Hour hold is one to hear if you've never heard one. Some places it's called a 5150, a 5585, or a host of other numbers, acronyms, and statuses. "Involuntary psychiatric commitment" begin very easily. It only takes a "qualified" person to determine you need a hold: a police officer, a mental health professional (whatever that actually means), and various doctors, hospital employees, and "teams."
Coming into the Intake process, you might find a woman crying blood, a suicidal teenager, or just someone no one seems to understand.
Ponder this woman's circumstances as she is pulled involuntarily into this "system." And the stigmas that follows.
