The Eye of Providence is a symbol that represents an eye, often enclosed in a triangle and surrounded by rays of light or glory, to represent divine providence, whereby the eye of God watches over humanity. Traces of the depiction of the divine eye can be found in Egyptian mythology and the Eye of Horus. It is also seen in Buddhism, which throughout their holy books, Buddha is usually referred to as the "eye of the world" and it indicates a triad in the shape of a triangle, which is called Tiratna or Three Gems. In medieval and Renaissance iconography in Europe, the eye (often with the triangle surrounding it) was an obvious symbol of the Christian Trinity. In the 17th century depictions of the god eye, clouds or sun rays surround the eye.
