How do you start exploring Ai art on the human form?
Throughout life we are conditioned to over-conceptualize creative projects. Early in my career I felt pressure to thoroughly analyze an artistic concept before starting. Taught that creative expression must have some purpose or deeper meaning. I believe this is largely due to our experience with arts education in school and museums. Every art piece must have a story and a purpose.
Of course every art piece has a purpose and story. This is inherent based on its manifestation in the world. All art is an expression of our lived experience. It's what we collectively refer to as culture. Some personalities prefer to plan and organize their thoughts before beginning a creative project but many do not. One thing is certain, we are all living our story right here, right now. IMO, there is nothing more genuine or daring than acting confidently when inspiration strikes.
This opinion has been reinforced through discussions with artist Philip Mullen. He introduced me to Allan Kaprow's Happenings. A term first coined in 1959. Don't overthink it. In that spirit, I started Project Ai. I wouldn't describe this project as a Happening because I'm exploring known artistic practices like digital projection and the human form. However, I do share his conviction to not over-thinking the project. Instead, I'm just focused on making it happen.
While working with a local artist, we'll call her the Mermaid, she agreed to model so that I could explore digital art projected onto the human body. Before we had a chance to execute the idea, I was introduced to Ai image GANs (midjourney). This led to combining the use of of Ai technology with digital projection onto the human form.
The image you see here is the first Ai output from this project based on an image prompt provided by Ms. Mermaid. "Sickly Person". You will see elements of it repeated throughout the series as it unfolds.
