Les Matières (The Materials) are aerial views of the Terra Australis, a huge imaginary continent mentioned in European maps between the 15th and 18th centuries.
With the rationalization of the world and our advanced technologies, the earth is becoming disenchanted. Each plot is mapped, dissected, inventoried. The part of fantasy linked to the unknown disappears as the real advances.
Yet technological advances, when diverted, can also stimulate the imagination, and give rise to otherness. The algorithms then become, no longer calculating machines, but poetic works.
