He's actually a surveillance drone tracking and reporting on movements and notating voices of displeasure and discontent to help calculate peoples social scores. In the near future the illusion of freedom diminishes, and it's slowly revealed the true nature of our imprisonment. Sure he's always ready with a corny joke, and will also tell you the predicted weather, but make no mistake, he is not your friend. Much like Alexa, Siri & other embedded robots pretend to be helper agents, more akin to sleeper agents. Your phone tracks and reports all your movements to the overlords. Loose lips, sink ships, be sure and put your phone in the bottom of the sock drawer before speaking freely or offering up honest opinions to your cell mates, ahem, spouse. Work and taxes are withheld from your check, buy anything and taxes are added on. End of year, pay taxes yet again on your earnings. Manage to work hard and save for 10+ years to "buy" a house, you never own it, you must pay annual property taxes, If you have the audacity to shuffle off this mortal coil, 30% or more of any meager savings will be confiscated before being passed on to your crotch fruit. Of course the rich are exempt from all these burdens as the legal loopholes were created by them, for them. They own stock, but don't sell, instead they borrow against assets not actually selling it.
