In the style of Van Gogh, specifically his later years. Characterized as post impressionism by using bolder strokes, often painted from memory, painted in a faster, and looser style and thus more abstract. Van Gogh was most prolific the last two years of his life. Producing approximately 2,000 works, consisting of 900 paintings and 1,100 drawings. His art career began with pencil drawing and felt he needed to master drawing prior to taking up painting. After getting perspective down and representative figures, he moved to painting. Slowly adding more color, and then getting bolder and looser with his strokes. The impasto style he seems most known for was mostly from his later years and progressed as time went on. He would actually mix paint on the canvas as he went and paint was often so thick you could see the strokes of the brush or the palette knife clearly, which added some degree of depth to his work. At the time this was perceived as very chaotic and almost scary to fellow artists who painted in a controlled and deliberate manner with slower with more careful strokes. It's been rumored he only sold a single painting in his lifetime. His brother Theo believed in him and his art and it was his unfailing emotional and financial support that sustained Vincent throughout his life, so he could focus on his art.
