Medea is an enchantress and powerful female figure in Greek mythology who is of divine descent and bore the gift of prophecy. Medea is one of the most complex and interesting characters in Greek mythology. She helped Jason, whom she married, obtain the Golden Fleece from her father King Aeëtes of Colchis by using her magic and council. During their flight, Jason and Medea murder her brother Apsyrtus by cutting him to pieces. She also enacted vengeance on King Pelias of Iolcos for sending Jason on the quest for the fleece, but was later betrayed and abandoned by Jason for the daughter of King Creon of Corinth. She took her revenge by murdering King Creon, his daughter and her two sons born from her marriage with Jason. She escapes Corinth in a cart sent by Helios (her grandfather) that is drawn by dragons and takes refuge with King Aegeus of Athens, whom she marries. King Aegeus eventually has a falling out with Medea after she attempts to poison his son Theseus and she is forced to flee.
