Behind the steal veil: The Weight of Silence

PROJECT WAS CREATED BY ODDSHOTSGALLERY IN DECEMBER 2025

Sexual violence in prison is a pervasive and devastating human rights crisis that affects incarcerated individuals across the gender spectrum, often fueled by imbalances of power and a lack of administrative oversight. For both men and women, these acts are rarely about sexual desire and are instead utilized as tools of domination, humiliation, and social control.

Regardless of gender, the trauma of prison sexual violence is compounded by the inability to escape one’s attacker, leading to long term psychological scars, increased risks of infectious diseases, and a cycle of trauma that complicates successful reentry into society.
