This collection parodies well known memes, creators and personalities of the Crypto/NFT Art space. It riffs off retro cartoon references of the 1970s-1980s; Topps trading cards like Garbage Pail Kids and Weird Wheels, satirical Art of publications like MAD, Beano and Whizzer & Chips. This one is based on UK Artist and software programmer Sparrow, also known as BlackBoxDot. She is also a founder of Women of Crypto Art (WOCA). Although considered an ‘OG’ in the Crypto/NFT Art world, her work is for the most part a departure from many of her contemporaries working in high tech, loud and manic style such as the Trash Movement. Antithetical to this Sparrow’s work often has elements of the organic, antiquated and romantic utilized for minimal, muted and textural forms or blurred figures. The almost painterly quality expressed via AI, GAN and digital collage clearly communicates her traditional Art background as departure.
