The life of the Butterfly Fairy is a short and fast paced one. Driven by a single purpose, the Butterfly Fairy roams the woods to find, amidst branches and nests, the best and most beautiful pair of wings. Chicks and birds, butterflies and caterpillars, none are safe in the trees when Butterfly Fairies are on the hunt. With an effort to contain it´s impulse and a hard trained patience, Butterfly Fairies are known to wait for days for the hatch of the cocoon or egg they have targeted. They know, from experience, that if they were to open those containers by themselves, the wings they would find in there would be spoiled: ever weak and useless. So, they wait. Once the wings have been plucked from their original owner, the fairy sews them on its own back using spider thread they acquire in exchange for the body of the creature they took the wings off. Stubbornly ignoring its incapacity to fly and its destiny as a land creature, the fairies blame their condition on the wings they find. Either too small, or too big, either too weak or too heavy, no pair of wings seems ever enough and serves only to reinstill in the fairy the belief that the “perfect pair” is yet to be found. In a fruitless pursuit, these fairies spend their days searching and dreaming of flight. Their lives usually end abruptly, either by an encounter with a bird they were no match for or by falling to their death in one last magnificent attempt to soar the skies.
