Steampunk-themed works often depict anachronistic technologies or futuristic inventions imagined by the visionaries of their time, all seen from a Victorian perspective in culture, art, fashion and even architecture. The term "steampunk" was first coined in 1987 by author Kevin Jeter. Steampunk is mainly inspired by the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne and the imagery found in their works. This sub-genre can be subsumed under the retrofuturist movement, the uchronia genre and speculative fiction, but its tendency is to incorporate fantastical elements.
