Mastery of disguise -- #1for1xtz drop Lake Alajuela hosts peculiar ecosystems due to the fact that the flood that created it also created several islands where species developed differently than they would have in the rainforest valley that used to be here. Adaptation is the key to survival. I was very lucky to spot this lizard among the opportunist weeds which grow on the banks of the lake when the water levels go down. Soon, they will have less sunlight as the rising waters drive them further inland inside the treeline, and thus forcing them to adapt their hunting strategies.
I am deeply honored to be able to walk, study and register this place, which is full of beauty and history.
