I love making Lofi! What is Lofi? Lofi stands for “low fidelity.” The imperfections of the music are supposed to create a meditative or calming effect. Look up Lofi on Youtube. You will see long lists of chilled out beats. Often Lofi has elements of 90’s boom-bap, Jazz, and sound design. Over the last two years of beat making, I have experimented with what I call “crooked beats.” Often the snare and hihat are not on the beat. They are moved slightly in front or behind the beat. Combine that with the amount of “swing” applied to each drum sound, and that is what is going on here in this recording. If you need a reference point I recommend listening to Georgia Anne Muldrow, MF Doom, or RZA or many others. I have collected a nice library of recordings (sound packs) of drums. Some of them I purchased, others I recorded myself using my own drum set and other found sounds. I take all the drum samples and load them onto the Elektron Model Samples groovebox/sample sequencer and play it live. I hope you enjoy the music…
Wishing you bright moments from the green!
