From the bottom of the cosmos, and emerging from it, a man scrutinizes deeply with his gaze. On his head, a tangle of red wisps, where a white bird nests.... is my surrealist version of the self-portrait of the Flemish painter Jan Van Eyck, known as "The Man in the Turban", which is suspected to be a self-portrait. This work speaks about the unfathomable, the unknowable, the ultimate mystery behind all things...For me, Flemish portraits are of great inspiration: behind the great precision in the representation, there is an impressive grasp of the psychological aspects of the character depicted.
