Along with the Old Testament prophets, Michelangelo inserts the Sibyls: prophetesses of the classical tradition. In the prophetic divinations of these women, the oxidental tradition also wanted to find indications of the coming of the Messiah. Thus, the Renaissance sought to reconcile the pagan world with the Christian world. The truth is that the Sibyls are one more example of the importance of women and their relationship with the numinous in the ancient world... In my version, the Sibyl opens her book in the sky, while her body has been transformed into a roaring tiger, and other beasts surround her, generating an exotic and dreamlike jungle setting...
