Setsubun is the day before a new season begins so there are 4 of them in a year, but it usually means the day before Spring and it was February 4th which was yesterday as I write this. Although Spring has supposedly started according to this old Japanese calendar, today feels like it's the coldest day since Winter started. It's actually snowing which don't happen that often in this part of Japan where I live. The traditional way of celebrating Setsubun is by throwing soybeans around the house to ward off Oni (ogre or evil if you like) and to bring int good fortune into the house. This collage actually reminds me more of the Girl's day which celebrates good health and growth of young girls. traditional dolls are often put on display on a step like platform. the figure I made though seems to have 2 horns on its head which is the characteristics of Oni though. You should definitely check out the ONI animation series which is a new take on the myth which says Oni is really us humans who are evil in out hearts.
