Please Stand By utilizes the iconic SMPTE color bars template and changes the palette to bring into question viewers perceptions surrounding "standards of color." An offshoot of my original series, I Got Something To Say, adds an additional more literal message. Please Stand By, The Uyghurs of Xinjiang. The Uyghurs are a group of 12 million, mostly Muslim, people living in Xinjiang China. They speak their own language and see themselves as culturally and ethnically close to central asian nations. But in past years China has been attempting a genocide of this population. Some have claimed this is an attempt from China to squash the spread of Muslim ideology and practices throughout the country; forcing Uyghurs into re-education camps, sterilizing their women, placing them in extended prison terms, and forcing them into labor camps. It’s time for the international community to step up and take a stance, putting a stop to this!
