A poem about reflecting on compassion and empathy, with a deeper look into humanity and the questions of life.
Dear Soul of mine, Why do you lack compassion so profound?
Have you let go of your childlike innocence of love? Can you not feel the sorrow and shed tears? Can you not empathize with a gentle touch or a heartfelt word? Did you let your heart ceased to bleed for faith in humanity?
Have you lost your ability to comprehend? Can you not interpret these genuine gestures of help? Can you not see it's not about winning or losing? Did you lose sight of that glimmer of hope in the darkest hour?
Have you forsaken that protective instinct of mercy? Can you not sense the endless cycle of suffering? Can you not just intervene in the madness? Did it escape your attention that life rests within your very hands?
Have you distance yourself from your internal sense of empathy? Can you not feel the desperate need for your embrace? Can it not be your responsibility to make a difference? Did you even attempt a heroic act of sacrifice?
Have you relinquished your saving grace of kindness? Can you not see lives trapped without choices? Can you not perceive what is truly needed? Did you not know that sometimes it's not meant for you?
Have you blocked yourself from experiencing your emotions? Can you not feel anything at all? Can you not react with empathy and care? Did you not learn how to pause and reflect?
Tell me, Dear Heart of mine, Did you take any action at all?
