The Secret of Laukkujärvi
Lena had always loved nature. She enjoyed hiking, camping and fishing in the wilderness of Sweden. She had heard stories about this place, a place of amazing esker nature and clear fish lakes. She decided to visit it during her summer vacation.
She packed her backpack with the essentials: a tent, a sleeping bag, a stove, some food and water, a fishing rod and a camera. She also brought her dog, Max, a friendly golden retriever who loved to explore new places with her. She drove to the parking lot near Laukkujärvi, a lake near Nikkaluokta. She planned to hike from there to the Kebnekaise Fjällstation, a mountain lodge that was the base for climbing the highest mountain in Sweden.
She left her car at the parking lot and started walking along the well-marked path. The weather was sunny and warm, and she felt happy and excited. She admired the lush mountain birch forests, the rocky paths and the bare mountains. She crossed several bridges over rivers and streams, and saw a boat transport over Láddjujávri, a turquoise blue lake that offered a stunning view of the Kebnekaise massif.
She stopped for a break at an open wilderness hut on the south shore of Laukkujärvi. It was a small wooden cabin that had been previously a sauna and had been renovated for hikers. It had a stove and some benches inside. Lena entered the hut and found a guestbook on a table. She opened it and read some of the entries from previous visitors. They wrote about their experiences in Hossa, their impressions of the nature and their tips for other hikers.
She decided to write something too. She took a pen and wrote:
"Hello! I'm Lena from Helsinki and I'm hiking to Kebnekaise with my dog Max. This is my first time in Hossa and I'm amazed by its beauty and diversity. I hope to reach the summit of Kebnekaise tomorrow and see as far as Norway and Finland. Wish me luck!"
She signed her name and date and closed the book. She looked around the hut and noticed a wooden box on a shelf. It had a label that said: "For hikers only". She was curious and opened it. Inside, she found a small leather pouch with some beads and feathers on it. It looked like an old Native American artifact.
She picked it up and examined it. It felt heavy in her hand. She opened the pouch and found a small stone inside. It was round and smooth, with some strange markings on it. It looked like an ancient rune stone.
She wondered where it came from and what it meant. She felt a strange attraction to it, as if it was calling her name. She decided to keep it as a souvenir of her trip. She put it in her pocket and left the hut with Max.
She continued her hike along the trail, unaware of the secret that she had just discovered.
