"Overall 2021" by Daniel Jerome /no5ay_ collection 2021 4000x5000, 300ppi Digital abstract paint expressionism
It's 3:53am writing this on New Year's Eve 2021...Around the end of April this year I started digital art as a way to help me out of cycles of intense anxiety + depression. Also with the hope of not just some sort of path change in my current conditions, but also a way for me to find or develop a new identity. My entries for unloading the mind or seeing if I could work my way through confusion by learning to accept...Trying to prioritize the feeling while creating & intention more so than the visual itself. I learned some photoshop for the first time & experimented with collages. I also decided to try my hand at abstract digital art. I've always doodled on paper or in drawing books in the past, even created similar pieces over personal journal entries for some sort of art therapy 2019/2020. So being able to transition that to digital this year was a really fun experience. Something that was meant as just creative exercise to recharge for other art projects as well as self exploration when it came to composition, color, etc...really became one of my favorite ways to express & just allow both subconscious and some conscious flow to to take place. I would say specifically the last couple of months since starting up this collection on objkt.com, I learned that I really really love chaotic overlapping of layers with lines + shapes...Almost focusing on small details in this style as a way to compensate for my actual drawing ability. Using color or leading lines to give the eyes direction & a sense of overwhelming wholeness. I feel like OVERWHELMING was "word of the year" for me...and honestly I think I tried to share that feeling with my digital abstract artwork. Through all the greatness that did take place this year, it's safe to say that my focus has still been stuck in the sadness that I've grown too accustom too, and just tapping into that has really helped me when it comes to just feeling better. I'm able to create and just feel when it feels right to stop...like a ramble to a needed ear till I'm out of breath or thoughts.... until my mind is emptied..Descriptions alone end up being my ramble sometimes. I'm just trying to keep things real for me in this moment. It's 4:02am now and feeling anxious about this new year 2022..I'm wishing to take less notice of what has kept me in a sad funk & thrive more this year through healing. With this intention, I also pray that I am able to relearn what it takes to be a functioning being that is filled with energy in order to help anyone however I can...Even if it's with just being able to create relatable artwork or something appealing that brings a sense of relief or satisfaction to anyone. I know what I'm trying to say, but stumbling with my words or struggling to express myself correctly in this way, it's quite difficult and has been for awhile...I think thats why I get along with creating art..................4:13am Next year I will work so hard at finding myself. I've been missing out on feeling whole for such a long time...my memory has been blurred and lost through the years.........2022...I will do my best to become the best I can be for myself and others. Especially with finding how to fully express the ideas that come to mind. Trying to manifest the good rather than continue building this negative blocks for myself. Thank you for allowing the space for this rant & just somewhere I can be me. I'm extremely grateful & looking forward to the new year. WGMI -Daniel Jerome
