At its heart dances the great Iranian ballerina Haydeh Changizian born in Tehran in 1945, trained in Iran, Germany, and later at the prestigious Vaganova Choreographic School of the Kirov Ballet in Leningrad. In 1972, she became the prima ballerina of the Iranian National Ballet, where her virtuosic technique and emotional depth transformed ballet into a language of both grace and power. In this piece, Haydeh is not merely dancing she is reborn in light, as a symbol of Iranian femininity, strength, and artistic transcendence. Her figure, framed in reflection and grain, represents the fusion of East and West, of body and spirit, of memory and motion. Surrounding her are white glycine flowers symbols of remembrance and spiritual continuity. Their softness against the mirrored geometry speaks to endurance through delicacy, and to beauty as an act of resilience. The entire piece was created in full alignment with the #GRAINTEZ theme “Keep it Grainy.” Every texture, every reflection carries the soul of analog imperfection transforming the grain into a vessel of memory, touch, and truth. Its geometric structure is drawn from “Gereh Ma” (Our Knot) a mirror sculpture originally designed and hand crafted by Maral in 2021. She personally cut every mirror shard with diamond tools and mounted them by hand upon her original geometric framework. The knot became both structure and soul a physical manifestation of “Ma,” the Persian word for We. The dancers rest at the heart of this sacred geometry the same mirrored structure from the original sculpture, where reflection meets identity. Within every grain lies a trace of Haydeh Changizian’s movement: a connection between past and present, between the physical and the ethereal, between woman and light.
This piece carries the spirit of Iranian ballet and Persian craftsmanship into the digital realm, bridging mirror and memory, the individual and the collective.
