Ava’s breath came in ragged gasps as they reached a small alcove. “What now?” she panted, glancing back at the approaching horde.
“We hold them off here,” Marcus said, his voice steady despite the fear in his eyes. “If we can find something to barricade the entrance…”
As he searched frantically, Ava spotted an old metal cart nearby. “Help me with this!” Together, they pushed it against the door just as it burst open, a wave of undead pouring in.
With adrenaline surging through their veins, they fought back, swinging and dodging. But for every one they took down, two more emerged from the shadows. It was a losing battle.
“Marcus!” Ava cried out as he stumbled backward, tripping over a pile of books. A zombie lunged at him, teeth bared.
In a split second decision, she threw herself forward, using her pipe to knock the creature away. “Get up!” she yelled, adrenaline coursing through her veins.
He scrambled to his feet, and together they pushed against the cart, forcing it tighter against the door. But it wouldn’t hold forever.
“Look!” Marcus pointed to a staircase spiraling upward at the back of the library. “We can make it to the roof!”
Did they make it out....?? You'll know in the next one..
