Reflection of Love in the Mirror of the Carpet In this artwork, the love of Khosrow and Shirin two legendary lovers from the depths of Persian mythology is reborn in a contemporary form.
Khosrow , a Sassanid king, and Shirin , an Armenian princess, embody a union where body and spirit intertwine beyond boundaries.
In Persian culture, love has never been separate from the body, touch and pleasure exist alongside prayer and devotion. Throughout Persian classical literature from "Vis and Ramin" to Khosrow and Shirin erotic teachings were inseparable from spirituality. Sexuality and love were not opposites but reflections of the same divine force:
one earthly, one celestial.
In ancient Iranian myth, desire was not sin , it was a creative power, a path toward unity with the divine.
In this collage, mirrors scatter fragments of desire, the carpet holds the memory of a civilization, and the goblet and instrument whisper of that instant when time kneels before love. Khosrow shines in gold the color of passion and power while Shirin breathes in violet and green, between dream and reality.
Within the geometry of reflections, love transforms from legend into presence alive, sensual, and timeless.
Footnote: Vis and Ramin, mentioned above, is one of the earliest Persian love epics, written by Fakhruddin As’ad Gorgani in the 11th century. Its story of a forbidden affair between a queen and her lover predates Khosrow and Shirin and reveals how erotic passion and spirituality were intertwined in ancient Iranian culture.
