Maschinenmensh: literally translated as "machine-human" in German.
Inspired by Fritz Lang's masterpiece, "Metropolis" (1927), the robot, often referred to as Maria (named Futura in the novel from which the film was adapted) was created in the image of the ruler's late wife, who goes by the same name. Once beloved by the brutalized lower-class workers for her empathy and care, the robot represents a twisted transformation enforcing subjugation upon those born in less fortunate circumstances.
Above the iconic female robot we see an inverted pentagram. The pentagram can be seen as a reference to Pythagoreanism and symbolize order and all that is good in the world. Inverting the symbol suggest the opposite: chaos and evil.
