Minted to document a comment made by wet plate photographer Shane Balkowitsch when I posted my opinion regarding the impact of Ai technology on arts & culture accompanied by my NFT titled "Reminds me of Jenny". Shane's response was "This is all but a fad".
Original post for context:
Over the past year I've been studying and experimenting with generative art and Ai tools. Throughout this short period of time I've worked with a number of technologies that I'm certain will radically change all facets of art and culture over the coming decade.
The image you see here, titled "Reminds me of Jenny", is generated by a GAN image generator. I provided the bot a conversational language prompt to create a 1920s jazz inspired image and after a few feedback cycles this was the result. I cleaned it up with an image editing program but it's very true to the original.
These tools will radically disrupt all traditional art disciplines, including literature, film, music, architecture... Everything. I often wonder what it would have been like to experience the invention of the camera or to have seen the first moving picture. I've now experienced such a moment and I suspect that once Ai reaches the masses it will be like nothing we've ever seen before.
We are on the verge of an explosion of creative expression. An artistic AND engineering Renaissance. These innovations give everyone access to infinite creative experimentation. These tools will help us explore concepts and possibilities that we currently cannot imagine.
I suspect my opinion may seem an exaggeration but if anything, it's an understatement.
Encourage all the young people in your lives to learn how to work with these tools. They are the future of arts and culture. If we want a say in that future then we must participate.
