A rich and sumptuous ceremony, Brumalia is attested by literary sources, dated from the 5th to the 10th century AD. Even though church authorities had often condemned the festivities and repeatedly prohibited what they saw as a pagan and demonic custom, the feast continued to be celebrated officially at the imperial court until the tenth century.
