Have you ever looked around and wondered if everyone is carrying a different dream, or if deep down we are all searching for the same feeling? For a long time, I thought everyone was moving toward a different future. Some wanted success. Some wanted peace. Some wanted love. Some wanted distance. Some wanted a place that finally felt like home. From the outside, our lives looked completely different. Different choices, different struggles, different reasons for getting up each morning. But the older I get, the more I think the names may change while the longing underneath stays strangely similar. Maybe the person chasing success is really searching for safety. Maybe the person looking for love is searching for somewhere they do not have to shrink. Maybe the one who wants to leave everything behind is not running away at all. Maybe they are simply tired of carrying a version of life that no longer feels gentle enough to stay inside. We rarely know what other people are truly looking toward. Someone can seem certain while feeling completely lost. Someone can be exhausted and still keep moving. Someone may have stopped believing for a while, only to be carried by another person's hope until their own returns. Maybe that is why we need each other more than we admit. Not always to give answers. Sometimes just to stand nearby while the answer has not arrived yet. To keep watch when someone else is tired. To remind one another that not knowing where we are going does not mean we are going nowhere. And perhaps all these different futures we imagine are not really so different after all. Maybe beneath the ambition, the fear, the love, the leaving, the waiting, and the hoping, we are all quietly looking for some version of the same place. A place where the body can unclench. Where we no longer have to prove that we belong. Where being alive feels a little less heavy. I used to think everyone was looking toward a different future. Then I realized perhaps we were all looking for the same thing in different names: somewhere softer to arrive.
