In the hearts of roman countryside, nestled in the lapse of rolling hills, lived a shepherd's girl, Ophelia, the queen of my heart. Haha, me on the other hand, was just a ordinary regular soldier of the mighty Roman army. I had a name, Nicholas, but for everyone, I was just a soldier. My job- wake up, guarding the border gates, War and die. Yes, that's how my life was, a soldier, meant to die in WAR.
The story goes back to the day when I was guarding the northern hills. I was all lifeless, haunted by the memories of wars and lost comrades until I heard someone humming, and I just got drawn towards it like a moth to a flame. I saw a young pretty girl singing melodies of love. Although I did try to keep myself hidden behind the wood, but she saw me (Maybe somewhere in my heart I wanted her to see me). And that's how our story began. Each day, I used to visit the hills, to hear her. And there, every time she was all glowy, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun and her voice a beacon of light in a my world of darkness and turmoil. As the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months, I found myself grasped in a bond with the shepherd's girl. I just used to hear her melodies and she used to enjoy my company. We never talked, but we found solace in each other's company. But as they say, Good time flies quickly, so what happened with us. Neighboring kingdom declared a war on us, and I was ordered to be on the frontlines. Knowing the harsh reality of life, I visited the shepherd's girl one last time, to hear her melodies. I knew I may not see her again, but I was happy. Her voice made me alive. Seeing her playing her favorite thing in a soulful voice, I sat there, and gazed upon her for like hours. And then with a heavy heart, I left her with promise of returning soon one day.
The war broke out and the first line of defence got completely wiped out. But I whole heartedly played my role and I died as a Nicholas. I'll always have that last day memory, embedded deep inside my soul. She was the one who made a complete different person, aided me in the times of darkness. For me, she was OPHELIA.
