She had climbed out of the trunk, dazed.
But within a few minutes, she had started to come around.
Soon, she began to talk.
“My name is Abigail Chester, and I’ve been kidnapped.”
She explained what happened as I started to reckon with what this all meant.
Her husband had started to act very, very strange. He had been part of this meditation group called The Circle that her sister introduced him to.
“At first, it seemed to be good for him. He’d come back. Happy and calm. Like he had released some psychic energy. But recently, he spent more and more time at their meditation center. Some old, abandoned church.”
She asked for a cigarette.
“He seemed to be meditating almost too much. Like it’s all he thought about. I started to get worried that he had joined a cult. I confronted my sister and asked what they were up to and…she slapped me.”
Abigail Chester was clearly a resilient woman. The type of person I could date if the context was different (...my mind gets easily distracted.)
“And life continues to get more bizarre. A week later, I’m tied up and thrown in this trunk!”
“By the way, when is my husband arriving? Have you called him?”
And then it hit me. Abigail Chester doesn’t know that her husband is dead.
