As we returned to the crime scene, baffled by who that man was, I decided to focus on the things we did know. There were four murder victims, and outside was where most of them lay.
I made the blue shits canvas with me. We would walk the surrounding areas in an attempt to find a clue. Any clue.
As we trekked over a nearby hill, we were presented with a scene unlike anything I had ever witnessed. The meadow was full of the same pink cashmere blankets found atop every victim. But this time, there were no bodies. These were clean and empty.
Was it a message? A warning?
Were these for people yet to be killed?
I am not one to be baffled, but I was perplexed.
I instructed the officers to pick up each and every blanket.
And that’s when we heard them.
Pop. Pop. Pop.
We were under fire.
