As I looked around the scene, I noticed something across the street.
A man, starting at us. Watching us.
Alongside him a janky bicycle.
He looked casual. Comfortable. Not perturbed by the pile of dead bodies. Nope, just watching.
As I got more curious, he started to walk off. Rolling his bicycle alongside him.
I began to run after him.
He got on the bike and started pedaling upright. He was moving too fast to sit.
We were in a chase. The uniformed police started running alongside me.
We didn’t stand a chance. My sprinting years long gone, and these coppers not knowing what cardio even is.
And so now we had it. A prime suspect in the death of Thomas Chester. And we already lost him.
