"Diafanea" is a quite large painting (150x100cm - 60x39in). It means "transparency" in Greek. It's inspired by an underwater video I made in Amorgos island.
Oh I loved that third stage so much!! I had to leave the canvas apart for a few weeks before making a final decision. That comes after a "glazing" coat. That's when you paint the whole surface all over with a very diluted color. As a result, it feels like it's covered with an evanescent veil. Now you can feel you're actually underwater.
All over the surface, except for the pink knot in the back of her bra. Which pops in the middle of the darkest part in the painting. Loved that pop.
But finally decided I wanted to explore further what this jumping mermaid could become.
It's why you can't find this painting anywhere in the physical world. Not underwater. Not on the beach. Not in my studio. Nowhere except here.
