The resignation of Justin Trudeau separately as the 23rd prime minister of Canada and leader of the Liberal Party was announced on January 6, 2025, at Rideau Cottage in Ottawa, Ontario.

Trudeau, who became prime minister in 2015, had been facing a heavy decline in public opinion polling and had been gradually losing the confidence of the House of Commons and Liberal Party members leading up to the 2025 Canadian federal election.

Trudeau had the second-lowest approval rating in Canadian history. He is the ninth prime minister in Canadian history to announce his resignation not as a result of losing an election.
